Kevin & Nancy Bart - Sharing Christ In Brazil - October 2010 Newsletter

Dear Friends,    This year we have experienced more spiritual warfare and more resistance in the schools than we have in our 3 previous years here. We have experienced alot of spiritual warfare every year, but there has been more open resistance & opposition to our message than in previous years. We are praying and hoping that the resistance and opposition from some teachers and leaders in some of the schools are only isolated instances and not a growing trend. This year we have had 1 outreach event in a school in Santos stopped before we were done, and one in Sao Vicente where on the 2nd day we were asked to not lead the students in prayer, and yet another in Guaruja in September where the event was cancelled for the night period, most likely because of opposition to our message. God clearly has given us His favor in opening so many opportunities to share Jesus in Brazilian schools, and we are praying that He will continue to do so. Please pray for us, and please pray that many more children, adolescents, and adults will be able to hear the wonderful message of Jesus in the schools here for many years to come. Thanks so much for your prayers.      - Kevin & Nancy

September 13:  Speak at EE Marechal do Ar school in Guaruja

We did our Quality Of Life project in this state school located in Guaruja, which has students from the 1st grade through high school. God did some great things when we were there. We worked with Primeira Igreja Batista Itapema, which is located near the school. This was the first school we have worked with this church, and they did a great job helping us. They had 6 people from the church to help us, including one of our interpreters Laise. Ariel was our other interpreter for the day. We were originally scheduled to speak in the school 6 days (2 days for the morning period and 2 days each for the afternoon & night periods). However the coordinator for the night period cancelled the project for some reason, and the whole thing was almost cancelled for the other periods as well. It was only after we went and spoke to all of the teachers the week before the event that the school agreed to let us speak. There was a large spiritual battle in the school, and 2 or 3 of the teachers were fighting to not let us come in and speak about Jesus. Fortunately the majority of the teachers and leaders wanted it, and because we had the authorization of the department of education for the area we were able to do the project. We were going to only speak in 8 classes on the first morning, but when we arrived they told us we had to finish the morning period that day (16 classes), and that we would have to reschedule the afternoon period for some other day later in the year because the government school leaders made some last minute surprise schedule changes. This happens quite a bit here in public schools in Brazil, and things are not as organized as we would like. All confusion aside, we had a great time in all of the classes, and the students and teachers were very receptive to hearing the gospel. We praise God that 369 students and 5 teachers accepted Christ, as did the coordinator and vice principal also.

September 19: Preach at Igreja Batista Getsemani in Guaruja

We recently have started working with Igreja Batista Getsemani in Guarujį to share Christ in their community. It is a small church led by Pastor Sisteval, and is located in a poor to middle class area of Guarujį known as Vicente de Carvalho. We will be working in a school with the church in early November, and Pastor Sisteval invited me to preach in his church. My interpreter was Alex Dias, who is a member of a nearby church.  We talked about God's passion for people to be saved and how He wants all of the church to join Him in His work of reaching out to lost people, and the Holy Spirit touched many hearts. At the end of the service I shared the Gospel and we praise God that 8 people accepted Christ and committed their lives to Him.

September 28-30: Speak at EE Presidente Tancredo Neves school in Guaruja

This is a state school for students in 5th grade through high school that is located in the Jardim Primavera area of Guaruja, which has a mix of middle class to poor people (the middle class here would be considered poor in many other countries). We worked with Pastor Alipio and Igreja Batista Jd. Primavera, and the church participation was good. We spoke in 33 classes in 3 days, and we are in awe of how God worked in the hearts and lives of many of the students and teachers. It never ceases to amaze us what God is doing here. In 3 days 552 students (including many adults studying at night) and 12 teachers accepted Christ. We knew we were going to have a great night the final night because we had 2 near-accidents on the way to the school; many times we have alot of crazy things happen to us right before some big victories. The students and teachers enjoyed our visits in their classes, and the school leaders were very appreciative for our coming to help. This was one of the better experiences in a school that we have had, and God was greatly glorified.
